Tamkang University

Today I'm going to write about one of the thing that have been making me happy for the past three years - Tamkang University. As a foreign student, studying abroad in Taiwan has been a wonderful experience for me, and that experience has become even more precious when I got admitted to TKU ( Tamkang University ). From the first time stepping my foot at Tamsui campus of TKU for an interview in 2010, I know that this will be the place that I would spend my four year studying abroad with.

Founded in 1950 by former president Clement D.C. Chang as a junior college of English literature, the school has now extended to become a university with 11 colleges with a total of over 28,000 students, more than 2,100 faculty and staff members, and over 230,000 alumni. The university has now contain four impressing campuses, each of them has their own unique beauty and serve different purpose Tamsui campus is a main campus, Taipei campus is where Chinese Language Program located, Lanyang campus are build with English speaking environment, and a cyber campus for student taking their degree online.

From my first day studying at Tamkang university. I haven been treated with many exciting activities and got oppotunirty to meet interesting people and enjoying a very fantastic student life. I think Tamkang Univeristy is a perfect school for anykind of student, and I'm not the only one. Hear these testimonies talking about the school :

"Tamkang University is a safe, kind, clean study environment for all attending students. It is well organized school with a lot of activities that students and staff can participate in.  Life in Tamkang University is easy and fun for all students both local and foreign students." - by Jennifer Hunuehu, a student from Solomon Island of the Pacific.

"Tamkang University is a  very special place in Danshui. Classes in the TKU  are offered in English and in Chinese. Although classes in English is something that is new, many classes are offered in English which is really good for us the foreigners. This  University offers a really good atmosphere and encourages student activities." - Susan Burns from Honduras, Central America.

"I really like my TKU’s daily life, I think I’m studying a very interesting career and have really nice classmates." - Jorge Francisco Garcia Dimas from central America

It's hard to put into words how proud I am to be a TKU ( Tamkang Univeristy) student. Not only because this is one of the top ten school in Taiwan, but also because of the experience I gained and the people I met. Thanks so much for TKU for giving me this awesome student life.

A great PE course to take

Not many people knows that TKU ( Tamkang university ) offer plenty of great PE ( physical education ) course for its student. Water activities is an example. This course included surfing, windsurfing and other progress with the season to help student develop skills to adapt with water course.
The curriculum is divided to two part, the first part is a five weeks of classes which take places at the school's swimming pool. In these classes, students got to learn some basic life saving skills such as what to do when you're out of energy, what to do when you suddently got cramped, how to survive or save life in bad weather etc. The classes also introduce different kind of swimming stroke, mostly feature life-saving style . Most important, it features surfing and windsurfing technique in theory.  After these five weeks, class-free for 3 weeks since most of the offical class time will be counted in the second part. So for people who is a bit random with PE classes like me, great choice. In fact, who wouldn't like to have 3 week of free classes, it should be a great choice for everybody!
The second part of the course is going out and have fun. Well, not that kind of clubbing "going out" or bar-ing "having fun". Remember the surfing technique mentioned above ? These are chances to apply them, for real. Student can choose a minimum 2 days and maximum 4 days to register and it's all weekend so you don't have to worry about missing any other classes during the week. Most student enjoy the second part at their best for the first reason is that it is pretty cheap, just about half or one-third of the price of surfing outside, people paid for 2000 or 3000 for doing what we student paid for 500, what an offer. The second reason is that this is a great group activities who helps meeting new friends or develop bonding between close friends. The teachers are very nice and very caring for their student. They remember all of the sport habit and teach us how to adapt to the environment quite well.
For student who is not TKU's, look for platform in your school to gather info, it should be available for all Taiwan. If you can't find any, our school welcome everybody!

What to eat and buy at Tamsui Old Street ?

                                                              1. Frozen yogurt :
A cup of delicious, healthy frozen yogurt, sprinkle with some cereals, nuts, jam and dried fruit will made your day, even better if you can design it by yourself. At yogurtto, customer can choose between eight flavor of frozen yogurt ( peach, cherry, apple, plain yogurt, strawberry etc. ) and twenty five kind of sprinkle to made of your very own cup of desert. Either mixed them all up together or eating them seperately, it is still very fresh and flavorful.

2. Frying milk :
Frying...what ??? Even the name got you excited. It's a great combination of crunchy cover of sweet, milky jelly, it's not expensive, just 20NTD for a stick and 50NTD for three stick. There's not much to say since I don't want to spoiled your moment, you have to try it yourself to experience what's call melting in your mouth but crunchy outside. Don't forget to check out the cranberry juice next door, one hundred percent fresh pressed

3. Henry Cat and Friends:
Famous idols in Tamsui town . These are the cute dogs, cats, rabbits family which hand painted in sea rock or printed in everything. From bags to wallet, purse, or even computer mouse, these are the great competitor of Hello Kitty. The price, on the other hands is a concern, most of Henry's stuffs cost from 300NTD to more than 1000NTD. But hey, I usually bumped into people who come all the way from Taipei or the South just to buy a cute, special item that could be found nowhere accept for Tamsui. So if you have some paper, why not ?

Tamsui Old Street

It is not common in everywhere to call a 50 years old street "old", just like calling a fifty something years old lady "old", she might get very angry and you might be in trouble. But well, that's how the locals call it, the street is actually in its most lively, exciting form especially during afternoon till late evening when music are played and color light bulb are twinkled everywhere.
There are a lot of activities you can do here, taking a walk and enjoy the nice weather and sight, eat and buy, playing mini games. When you're tired of walking, check out the foot massage or stop by street performer who usually are defected, when you finished, give them some coins for charity, but don't give money or buy chewing gum from those on the wheelchair thought, they are fake!

Sexy Go Go Girls

In night club, it is not unusual to see Go Go Girls who perform sexy dance to cheer up the crows. In fact, Go Go Girls has become a absolute part of the clubs, especially in Taiwan, where the girls who dress in sporty jeans and bikini are often very very welcome. Wait! Not in BLUR
If you go outside of the club and look at the poster, you will see a big title "Golden Pussy Cat" (translated from Chinese ) which is follow by a small paragraph introducing two Western dancer who actually has a band name called "Crazy Dolls". Fun fact, one of the two girls is actually a graduate student from National Chiao-Tung Univeristy - one of the top five precious school in Taiwan, so if you think these dolls are just brainless moving sexy body. Well, you're wrong.

Unlike many Go Go show in Taiwan, Crazy Dolls features a three part show. The first part is the girl walking out singing "Babe, babe" with their maid costume and taking some special guess who properly had paid a huge amount of money to celebrate their birthday. The girls offer the guess sitting on a chair, tiding them a small ribbon and acting around the stage with the puff like a intro of a pornography movie. The second part is the guess leaving, giving the girl back the chair so that the girls can take off some part of the clothes in the wild, crazy cheer of the crown. The final part is not much different, showing their provoking hot body and dancing around the chair.

According to a loyal customer of the club. Crazy Dolls started from just a few years ago, in the first show the girls were pretty nervous and having lots of friends supporting them at the  back stage, from the second and third show photos begins to be posted on Facebook, and the more appreciate received, "the clothes are taking off more often". Their show at the beginning is pretty much like the Taiwanese girls, just pure dancing and looking sexy, but then it changes times after times and revolved to the show right now because "they want to be unique". The resource also said that these two girls received a surprising high paid for only 15 minute show every week.
